Uriel Orlow ist ein Künstler mit diasporischem Hintergrund, der zwischen London, Lissabon und Zürich lebt und arbeitet. Uriel Orlows künstlerische Praxis ist forschungsbasiert, prozessorientiert und multidisziplinär und umfasst Film, Fotografie, Zeichnung und Sound.
Seine Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Überresten des Kolonialismus, räumlichen Manifestationen der Erinnerung, blinden Flecken der Repräsentation und Pflanzen als politische Akteure. Seine multimedialen Arbeiten konzentrieren sich auf spezifische Orte und Mikrogeschichten und bringen verschiedene Bildregime und Erzählweisen in Korrespondenz. Orlows Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen internationalen Überblicksausstellungen präsentiert, darunter 12. Berlin Biennale (2022), 14. Dakar Biennale (2022), 54. Uriel Orlow ist Preisträger des Schweizer Grand Prix für Kunst/Prix Meret Oppenheim 2023. Im Jahr 2020 erhielt er den C.-F.-Meyer-Preis und 2017 wurde er mit dem Preis der Sharjah Biennale ausgezeichnet. Darüber hinaus erhielt er 2015 den Werkjahr-Preis der Stadt Zürich und drei Swiss Art Awards an der Art Basel (2008, 2009, 2012) und war 2013 auf der Shortlist für den Jarman Award.

Uriel Orlow is an artist with a diasporic background who lives and works between London, Lisbon and Zürich. His practice is research-driven, process-oriented and often developed in interdisciplinary dialogue with diverse people. His projects engage with residues of colonialism, spatial manifestations of memory, social and ecological justice, blind spots of representation, and plants as political actors. His multimedia installations focus on specific locations, micro-histories and forms of haunting. Ranging from installation, photography, and film to drawing, sound and gardens, his works bring different image-regimes and narrative modes into correspondence.
Uriel Orlow’s work has been presented at major survey exhibitions, such as the Berlin Biennale (2022), 54th Venice Biennale (2011), Manifesta 9 (2012) and 12 (2018) in Genk and Palermo, respectively, and the VI Lubumbashi Biennial (2019), among others. Notable recent solo exhibitions include Casa da Cerca, Almada (2022/23), Kunsthalle Nairs Switzerland (2021), La Loge, Brussels and State of Concept, Athens (both 2020), Kunsthalle Mainz (2019/20), Tabakalera, San Sebastian and Villa Romana, Florence (both 2019), Kunsthalle St Gallen Switzerland, Market Photo Workshop Johannesburg and Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers Paris (all 2018), PAV Turin (2017), The Showroom London (2016), and Castello di Rivoli (2015).
